Capital Campaign Director

Reports to the President & CEO, Full-time three year term, FLSA exempt
Position is open until filled

State Theatre New Jersey seeks a Capital Campaign Director for a full-time, three-year position responsible for implementing and helping complete a major capital campaign. This position has the potential to become a permanent position in development at the end of the approximately three year campaign period. However, there is no guarantee of continued employment beyond the term of the campaign.

Responsibilities

Capital Campaign Strategy and Planning:

  • Serve as the internal lead in the strategy development and ongoing planning of the Campaign, working collaboratively with the President & CEO, Chief of External Affairs, Senior Director of Development, Campaign Consultants, and Campaign Committee

Capital Campaign Management:

  • Lead the implementation of and manage the Capital Campaign through all phases, coordinating activities between the Capital Campaign Committee, Campaign Consultants, Board and staff
  • Oversee and actively manage campaign prospect lists, prospect research and prospect tracking
  • Recruit and manage campaign volunteers, and manage the Capital Campaign Committee along with the Campaign Consultants
  • Schedule and support campaign meetings and manage the campaign expense budget
  • Prepare reports for the President & CEO and Campaign Leadership to deliver to Trustees

Events and Campaign Communications:

  • Assist Senior Director of Development in planning and implementing cultivation and recognition events
  • Develop capital campaign print, web and social media communications materials, with support from development team, Campaign Consultants and graphic designer
  • Oversee public relations and recognition throughout the campaign, including for leadership and named gifts, in coordination with Chief of External Affairs and Director of Communications

Cultivation and Solicitation:

  • Establish solicitation priorities, manage prospect lists and research, develop and execute targeted cultivation plans and solicitation strategies for a range of prospects
  • Prepare and provide support to staff, Board, and volunteers for solicitations
  • Develop strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development
  • Work with President & CEO, Chief of External Affairs and members of the Campaign Committee and Board, as appropriate, to cultivate prospects
  • Work collaboratively with the Capital Campaign Committee to cultivate identified institutional prospects and prepare corporate, foundation and government grant proposals
  • Ensure donor acknowledgement, stewardship and public recognition is timely and appropriate; Coordinate and manage communication to donors (i.e. thank you letters, information letters, campaign update letters, etc.)
  • Participate in solicitations as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned relating to the Campaign.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 7-10 years of experience in fundraising, with extensive experience in major gifts and annual fund fundraising
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects and experience with project management
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with diverse, strategic outcomes
  • Ability to organize work, determine priorities, and follow through on responsibilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Professional and courteous presence, on phone and in person; ability to work with a wide variety of people; ease in initiating contacts with other groups
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours for donor events and performances

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or advanced degree in related field
  • CFRE is a plus

graphic designer

Reports to the Creative Director, Full-time, FLSA non-exempt
Position is open until filled

State Theatre New Jersey is seeking a Graphic Designer to join its marketing team. Under the oversight of the Creative Director, the Graphic Designer will work both independently and with the team to design and produce marketing and institutional materials that support the brand and mission of the organization. The Graphic Designer will also be responsible for monitoring the quality of printing vendors and maintaining brand standards in all organization materials.

Responsibilities

Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and produce materials such as brochures, invitations, posters, flyers, print and digital advertising, etc. with oversight from the Creative Director
  • Develop and assist with design and text updates for the State Theatre New Jersey website
  • Collaborate with marketing, development, and education departments on design concepts and execution
  • Assist in email creation and deployment
  • Design social media support graphics
  • Monitor and work with printing vendors to maintain brand standards in production
  • Maintain archives of print materials and digital files
  • Assist the Creative Director with the creative workload
  • Perform administrative duties such as cutting flyers, hanging posters, preparing items for distribution
  • Other duties related to the position as assigned

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Minimum two years of professional graphic design experience
  • Associate’s degree or graphic design certification
  • High proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite: specifically Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator
  • Ability to multi-task and complete time-sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong typographic skills, flexible design concepts, and strong proofing skills
  • Knowledge of HTML and Online Content Management Systems
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Quark Xpress, Dreamweaver, and Video Editing
  • Experience in the arts and entertainment industry
  • Experience in marketing direct to consumer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field of study

Group Services & Ticket Concierge

Reports to the Sales Manager, Full-time, FLSA exempt
Position is open until filled

The Group Services & Ticket Concierge is responsible for professional and administrative work in planning and executing a robust group services program for State Theatre New Jersey events. Responsibilities include soliciting group sales off site and on site; selling tickets by computer, telephone, and mail; and providing event and facility information. The work involves extensive contact with the general public and requires a high degree of accuracy. The Group Services & Ticket Concierge also provides ticket concierge services to select donors and organizations in order to maintain relationships with State Theatre partners.

Group Sales Responsibilities (85-90% of time)

Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and implement plans for selling group tickets to local and regional businesses, organizations, and other groups seeking social events and entertainment.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and potential group marketing patrons and partnerships.
  • Make face-to-face sales calls, identify and set meetings with key contacts in the community and produce group leader events.
  • Make outbound calls to solicit group sales.
  • Negotiate with and manage group sales clients and partnerships.
  • Forecast group sales activity for productions and manage to those projections.
  • Identify, develop and maintain long-term business relationships with group ticket clients and companies.
  • Keep current in trends in group sales in other performing arts venues, bringing innovative ideas and marketing strategies to constantly improve upon the program and outreach efforts.
  • Develop and oversee effective marketing materials for group services.
  • Manage group sales budgets, reporting expenditures to the Sales Manager and/or Director of Event Marketing.
  • Work in cooperation with the Ticket Office and Front of House staff to ensure overall client satisfaction.
  • Make recommendations on operational policies, procedures, and service changes to improve client satisfaction.
  • Manage group order process, including but not limited to, entering all contracts and contacts in the Tessitura database system, work to collect all payments, send out order confirmations, and maintain contact with box office personnel for fulfillment of all orders.
  • Perform data entry and office duties necessary to document receipts and balances due.
  • Represent State Theatre New Jersey at trade shows, community events, promotional events, and at State Theatre New Jersey performances as needed.
  • Work with group services customers to resolve issues.
  • Develop, maintain and administrate Group Services bus tours to select performances.
  • Assist with other State Theatre New Jersey events as appropriate and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all State Theatre New Jersey policies and procedures.

Ticketing Concierge (10-15% of time)

  • Provide an exceptionally high level of customer service related to ticket purchases for donors, board members, and VIP patrons, going above and beyond to make sure that their ticket needs are fulfilled in a timely, accurate manner and their customer service expectations are exceeded.
  • Get to know donor’s personal programming tastes and preferences and proactively communicate with them, based on their preferences, in order to effectively advertise added shows.
  • Provide immediate attention to a patron’s needs regarding exchanges, ticket reprints, and will call name requests.
  • Enhance the patron’s experience by providing suggestions and options regarding transportation, parking, dining, and hotel options.
  • Follow up with patrons after the performance to gain insight on their opinions and feedback.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Sales experience in business to business and or business to consumer
  • Ability to develop and present persuasive sales presentations and close sales
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with current and potential clients, community groups, and others
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including public speaking
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to meet transportation requirements of this position
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented and willing to utilize the Tessitura database ticketing system
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work productively under time pressures
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours for events and performances

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
  • Knowledge of the live performing arts
  • Working knowledge of advertising, promotional techniques and practices

USHERS (PART-TIME)

Management is looking for applicants with past experience in direct customer service as well as a wide array of hours of availability including days/nights/weekends/holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

  • Greet and Welcome all guests
  • Direct all guests to their proper assigned seats
  • Correct seating mistakes as necessary
  • Provide prompt and professional responses to all audience inquiries
  • Monitor and enforce patrons to ensure State Theatre New Jersey policies regarding procedure and safety are followed
  • Perform all pre- and post-performance tasks as directed by management
  • Disperse any and all marketing materials as directed by management
  • Assist all Guests in the event of an emergency to locate the nearest Exit or escape route to safety
  • Light maintenance and cleaning
  • Assist special needs and handicapped guests as necessary

Physical/Mental Requirements Necessary

  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. waist high, including up and down stairs is required
  • Ability to climb steps repeatedly is required
  • Ability to descend/ascend ramps and inclines/declines
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time is required
  • Work indoors/outdoors in a fast-paced, busy environment, with environmental conditions such as noise, dust, heights, dark/dim/absence of lighting, and smoke. Incumbents must have the ability to bend, stretch, reach, and kneel without restriction
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both written and oral forms
  • Must have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
  • Maintain a professional, neat and well-groomed appearance, adhering to State Theatre New Jersey standards.
  • Work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States is required
  • Experience with Two Way Radios is preferred

The Marketing/PR intern will work closely with staff to implement marketing, promotions, public relations, and audience development initiatives. Must have strong organizational skills, strong writing skills, and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Researching individual prospects and donors
  • Researching companies and foundations for possible partnerships and grant opportunities

  • Creating, maintaining, and updating lists
  • Data entry and updates
  • Filing and file upkeep
  • Creating and updating Development Department plans and calendar
  • Some special event projects

Candidates must possess strong writing skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
